  Annual Report 2008-2009

A Year in Review

TThis has been a busy and exciting year for the Heritage Canada Foundation as we work toward strengthening the heritage movement in Canada.

We have continued to broaden our networks and leverage the expertise of our members and supporters, increasing our access to ideas and direction from the front lines. Clearly, collaboration is the key for success.

Our advocacy work is ongoing. We are proud of the instrumental role HCF played in the passage of Bill S-215, An Act to Protect Historic Lighthouses, while at the same time supporting the challenges that local communities from across the country are facing.

Our achievements are numerous: the annual conference in Quebec City, Work That Endures: Power to the People Keeping Historic Places Alive, brought together heritage advocates and groups from the natural and cultural heritage fields; the publication of online Heritage Day materials celebrating “Heritage and the Environment: Saving Places Built to Last”; the launch of SPERO-L, our historic places of faith email-based discussion tool; the release of our Top Endangered Places and Worst Losses lists, bringing Canada-wide attention to those sites needlessly lost to demolition and fire; the publication of our quarterly Heritage magazine featuring top stories, reports and commentaries on the key issues facing historic buildings and places; and more.
